Why this matters
Forward-pre-load: the lady is plausibly Alvida (Sanji spots her in Loguetown’s streets before she ascends the scaffold, but does not recognize her as a wanted pirate). The chapter installs the Sanji-as-pre-recognition-chivalry-tracker register — Sanji’s gentleman-toward-beauty grammar operates before moral-assessment. The pattern recurs through:
- Hancock (Sanji is unaffected by the Mero Mero but still grovels)
- Pudding (Sanji is moony-eyed despite the assassination-plot)
- Various pirate-empress-tier beauties
The Ch. 98 Loguetown beat is the first instance of the Sanji-tracks-an-unrecognized-villainous-beauty pattern. If the lady is indeed Alvida, the chapter delivers a quiet structural-bookend at the East Blue arc’s close.
