The seed
Crocodile’s first visual appearance (Ch. 155 p. 6): long stitched facial scar from temple to jaw, slicked-back dark hair, broad scarred chest, massive golden left hook prosthesis for his left hand, fur-trimmed black coat. The hook + scar combination is a deep-injury visual register — Crocodile has lost his left hand and survived a face-cut. The scar’s vertical orientation across the eye-line is the scar-of-a-sword-strike register.
Why this matters
The visual register implies a defeat-and-survival backstory that the Alabasta saga or later flashback will need to address: who took his hand? What sword-strike scored the face? The fur-trimmed coat + crocodile-tooth-clasp necklace install the crocodile-theme + cold-weather-coat-in-a-desert dissonance (the coat suggests Crocodile is unaffected by Alabasta’s desert heat — perhaps tied to his forward-canon Suna-Suna no Mi / sand-Logia status).
