Crocodile after bisecting the pirate raid (Ch. 155 p. 9): …Swine. I’m a different breed of pirate… — first on-page Crocodile self-conception. He holds ordinary pirates in tier-contempt. The line pairs with his earlier You pirates think you can plunder Alabasta at will, eh? (p. 6) — Alabasta is his territory; other pirates are interlopers.

Why this matters

The doctrine pre-loads the Luffy-Crocodile confrontation: when Luffy (an explicitly ordinary-pirate-coded protagonist) reaches Crocodile, the different breed doctrine will be tested. Forward-canon: Luffy’s three-round Alabasta confrontation forces Crocodile to acknowledge Luffy as a tier-rival, breaking the different breed register.
