Cover Story Wedding At A Certain Ruined Island Meta-Foreshadow

forward of this batch’s window (§Forward guards). The meta-foreshadow is logged pending; set
payoff_chapterwhen the wedding actually convenes/collapses on-page.
This is a meta-foreshadow, not a literal cover→main merge: the Decks of the World anthology never drops
a character into main canon (unlike the Caribou → Wano cover-story payoff, the textbook merge case). The
“payoff” here is purely thematic — the serial’s farewell title rhyming with the arc’s central event. The
parent serial is accordingly logged status: concluded (not merged-into-main-plot), with no
payoff_chapter set on the cover note.

Ch 838 page 1 — the cover serial’s Final-Volume subtitle itself.
Why this matters
- cover-story-payoff / meta-foreshadow — Oda occasionally lets a cover serial comment on the main plot rather than feed into it. Here the B-plot anthology’s sign-off title (“A Wedding at a Certain Ruined Island”) is a title-page wink at the main-plot wedding the same chapter is setting up.
- title-page-wink — the “ruined island” + doves + planted grave-sword framing is tonal foreshadowing: the WCI wedding is being telegraphed as a trap/disaster, not a celebration. Generalize: when a long-running cover serial ends on a title that mirrors the active arc’s marquee event, read it as authorial signal.
