Siam (Japanese: Sham, シャム) is the lean, agile half of the Meowban Brothers duo on Kuro’s Black Cat Pirates crew. Named after the Siamese cat breed (Japanese Shamu-neko) — his physical design (slender, hunched, cat-eared, green cat-eyes) matches the breed’s silhouette. Paired with the bulky Buchi (whose name means spotted) as a lean-vs-bulky combat-doublet, both wearing matching cat-suit costumes.

Name etymology

See frontmatter — Sham = Siamese-cat-breed clipping; whole crew uses cat-themed names (Captain Kuro = “black”; the Meowban / Nyaban compound = “meow-guards”). VIZ Anglicizes to Siam to preserve the cat-breed reference in English (since the country Siam = old name for Thailand, from which the Siamese cat breed gets its name).
